Tatsyana Karatkevich and Syarhey Haydukevich were each supported by around 5% of voters, according to the same government pollsters.
Belarusian authorities did not allow any independent exit polls to be taken during the elections.
The central election commission reported voter turnout at nearly 82% two hours prior to the closing of the polls at 8 p.m. local time, well over the 50 percent required to declare Belarus’s presidential election valid.
